SPC and HJC Report on Intensive Legal English Language Course

From 4th to 8th of December 2017, the representatives of the State Prosecutorial Council of Serbia - Svetlana Nenadić. Member, Tomo Zorić, Secretary and Marijana Santrac, Senior Advisor for International Cooperation, together with the representatives of the High Judicial Council of Serbia - Marija Filipovic, Advisor for Normative Issues and EU Integration Process and Nikola Colanovic, Adviser, attended the Intensive Legal English Language Course, organized by the Academy of European Law (ERA) in Brussels, Belgium, through a series of lectures, group-work and conversation exercises.
The purpose of the Course was to strengthen participants' knowledge of legal terminology, writing and speaking skills. Main topics of the course were:

  • Introduction into Legal English (key common law and civil law terminology, sources of law, case-related terminology, procedural terminology)
  • Effective Legal Writing (clear and comprehensible expressing of opinion)
  • Civil Liability - Contract Law
  • Criminal Law
  • Civil Liability - Tort Law
  • Civil and Criminal Procedure
  • Employment Law
  • EU English
  • Human Rights

This course was very useful for the participants from justice councils of Serbia in the context of the ongoing EU accession process of the Republic of Serbia and related reporting, as well as for meetings with international experts during expert missions and other international cooperation forms.
